Product Overview

1:18 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Twister Special in Grabber Orange with a Super Cobra Jet (SCJ) 428 cu in engine, shaker hood scoop, Goodyear tires on Magnum 500 rims.

6500 were produced in die cast metal and plastic parts by the Ertl Company exclusively for Town and Country Toys in Waterloo Wisconsin.

This was the first Mach 1 produced by Ertl in 1997.

Comes New In Box - NIB.

History of the real car: Ford Motor Company produced 96 1970 Mach 1 Twister Specials for their 'Total Performance Day' held Friday November 7, 1969 in Kansas City, MO. These cars were originally produced for American Raceways Inc (ARI) but they went bankrupt and the cars were never delivered. Ford contacted a detailing firm to remove the ARI logos and replace them with the Mach 1 Twister Special logo. This was the first and only time Ford included the Ford logo on the front quarter panel.

Roughly half of the Mach 1 twisters had 351C and the other had the 428 SCJ engines. There are youtube videos available for this car: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaAUkOsJT5g  Ford also produced Twister Torino's.

Dean & Shirley Jaeger, (Town & Country Toys) own the real car which has a 351 Cleveland with a 4 speed. Only 2 with a 351 and 4 speed are known to be left in existence. Approximately half of the Twisters with the SCJ 428 still exist.
